Create a Points Rule Set

FlexNet Manager Suite 2019 R1 (On-Premises Edition)

Points rules determine how linked points-based licenses are consumed.

You can either create your own points rule set (along with the individual rules in the set), as documented here; or you can add your own points rule(s) to a set downloaded with the Application Recognition Library (see Add a Points Rule).

Points rule sets are only available for the following license types:
  • Core points
  • IBM PVU
  • IBM RVU
  • IBM UVU
  • Microsoft Server Core
  • Oracle Named User Plus
  • Oracle Processor
  • Processor points.
Tip: Although the Microsoft Server/Management Core licenses are points-based licenses, they do not have a visible points rule set, and cannot be modified to use a different point rules set.

To create a points rule set:

  1. Navigate to License Compliance > Points Rule Sets (in the Licenses group).
  2. Above the list, click Create a points rule set.
The list of points-based license types appears.
  3. Click the license type to which this points rule set should apply.
Note: This applicable license type cannot be changed later.

A properties page appears. At creation time, this has only two tabs, but a third tab will appear after the points rule set is linked to individual licenses.

  4. On the General tab, complete the Name field. Keep the name distinct within its first few words so that you can easily differentiate between sets in the list.
    The following fields are read-only:
    • License type — as set when you created the points rule set. Remember that you cannot change this value (if you chose the wrong license type by mistake, Cancel creation of the rule set and create a new one).
    • Source — always Local for a rule set that you create.
  5. Select the Points rules tab, and add as many points rules to this set as are required.
For details about creating the individual points rules, see Add a Points Rule.
  6. Click Save.
The rule set is saved in the compliance database, and is available for reference in any applicable licenses.
