Ownership Tab

IT Asset Management (Cloud)

The Ownership tab displays the details about the ownership of this VDI template by enterprise groups, including up to one each from location, corporate unit, and cost center. This tab also displays the assigned user for the template.

The properties on this tab are editable, so that you can record ownership details for this VDI template. Generally, these values are for your management and record-keeping only, and do not result in any changes being written back to your VDI tool (such as Citrix). However, as with all assignments to enterprise groups, if an operator has restricted rights that prevent access to specific groups, an assignment to a group may limit which VDI templates an operator can see. Similarly, if an operator's rights restrict access to the assigned user, this also limits visibility of the VDI template for that operator.

For more information about using lists, filters, and other UI options, see the topics under Using Lists in IT Asset Management. The following table displays the ownership and user properties in an alphabetical order:

Table 1. Ownership tab details
Field Description
Assigned
The end-user who is assigned to this VDI template.
Tip: It may be uncommon to assign a single end-user to an entire VDI template, from which various virtual desktop instances may be created. It is true that, on a physical inventory device, an assigned user overrides the calculated user found in inventory; but in this case of a VDI template, the assigned user has no further impact on inventory gathered from future instantiations of virtual desktops from this template. You may therefore leave this field blank unless required for your own management reasons.
Corporate unit

The corporate unit responsible for this VDI template. While IT Asset Management allows you to create a hierarchy of corporate units based on the structure of your enterprise, this ownership link has no effect on parent or child corporate units in that hierarchy. Nor does it affect the ownership of future instances of virtual desktops spawned from this template. However, as noted above, assignment to a corporate group to which an operator does not have access rights prevents the operator seeing the record of the template.

Cost center

The cost center responsible for this VDI template, and presumably responsible for any associated costs. While IT Asset Management allows you to create a hierarchy of cost centers based on the structure of your enterprise, this ownership link has no effect on parent or child cost centers in that hierarchy. Nor does it affect the ownership of future instances of virtual desktops spawned from this template. However, as noted above, assignment to a cost center to which an operator does not have access rights prevents the operator seeing the record of the template.

Location
The location within your enterprise that is responsible for the VDI template. While IT Asset Management enables you to create a hierarchy of locations based on the geographical hierarchy of your enterprise, this ownership link has no effect on parent or child locations in that hierarchy. Nor does it affect the ownership of future instances of virtual desktops spawned from this template. However, as noted above, assignment to a location to which an operator does not have access rights prevents the operator seeing the record of the template.
Tip: When IT Asset Management is in 'PVU mode' (responsible for sub-capacity calculations of points for IBM PVU licenses), this tab may also display which of the three mandatory IBM regions contains the specified locations.
