Subnets

IT Asset Management (Cloud)

The easiest way to populate the sites and subnets list is to import your current information from Active Directory, using an inventory beacon with each relevant domain. This import is controlled through the FlexNet Beacon interface on the inventory beacon (for information, see Importing from Active Directory). Where this is not possible, or where you want to manually subdivide a subnet into smaller sets of devices for easier management, you can create and edit records manually. This Subnets page enables you to manually create, edit or delete sites and subnets within your enterprise.

These records must be complete because an inventory beacon collects and uploads discovery and inventory information from one or more subnets of your organization that have been assigned to it. After this assignment, the inventory beacon either executes Discovery and Inventory Rules on these subnets, or passes policy to the FlexNet Inventory Agent locally installed on devices, according to the beacons settings defined on the Inventory Settings Page. IT Asset Management assigns a discovered device to a subnet based on the IP address reported for the discovered device.

The Subnets page enables you to perform the following actions:

The following subnet properties are available for display. By default, IT Asset Management displays all of these properties, but some may have been moved into the column chooser.

Table 1. Site or subnet properties
Property Description
Beacon name

The inventory beacon managing this subnet. If the Beacon name shows Unspecified, you can edit the row to create an assignment.

You can also find subnets with Unspecified inventory beacons in the Unassigned Subnets page, and complete the assignment there.

Site/Subnet

Specifies a site name or subnet IP address in IPv4 CIDR notation (for example, 192.168.100.0/24). A site can have multiple subnets, each with an IP address that is unique enterprise-wide (each unique subnet may be assigned to exactly one site).

For records where Update automatically displays No, the name can be edited directly on this page: see Creating or Updating a Site or Creating or Updating a Subnet.

Status

Shows whether FlexNet discovery and inventory information can be collected from the subnet (Enabled) or not (Disabled).

To change the Status:
  1. On the subnet row, click the edit (pencil) icon.
  2. In the Status column, choose the other value from the drop-down list that appears. (Do not choose All, which will produce indeterminate results.)
  3. Click the save (diskette) icon on this row.
Update automatically

Specifies whether this record is updated by IT Asset Management (Yes), or by manual editing (No).

To change the Update automatically setting:
  1. On the subnet row, click the edit (pencil) icon.
  2. In the Update automatically column, choose the other value from the drop-down list that appears. (Do not choose All, which will produce indeterminate results.)
  3. Click the save (diskette) icon on this row.
