Setting Up Compliance Rules for Inventory Devices

FlexNet Manager Suite 2019 R2 (On-Premises Edition)

For compliance purposes, you can choose what types of configuration and hardware changes FlexNet Manager Suite must track for each type of a device. You can track these changes for the following device types: laptops, mobile devices, servers, and workstations.

Remember: Properties of an inventory device are automatically tracked only after that device is linked to an asset. If a hardware property has changed after the inventory device was linked, the asset it is linked to gets displayed on the Changed Device Assets page.

To set hardware compliance rules:

  1. Navigate to the system menu ( in the top right corner) and click System Settings.
  2. Click the Assets tab.
  3. For every device property that you want to track, select one or more device types from the Track compliance on drop-down list.
On device types that you do not select for a particular property, changes in that property have no effect on compliance tracking. For example, if for Total Memory you selected Server and Workstation, any change in memory in a laptop (or in a mobile device) does not trigger any alerts.
  4. In the Action column, select the applicable check boxes:
    • ChangedFlexNet Manager Suite automatically tracks any modification of the corresponding device property.
    • IncreasedFlexNet Manager Suite tracks any increase in a device property.
    • DecreasedFlexNet Manager Suite tracks any decrease in a property.
Note: Changes to the Host field are tracked only for the Virtual Machine and VM Host types of devices.
  5. Click Save.
If a change in a device's property is identified during the inventory import, the compliance status for that device is set to Changed.
Tip: If your procurement process for new hardware includes creating asset records before the hardware is deployed, be sure to include the correct serial number in an asset record. Later, when the new computer is deployed, and its first inventory details gathered, the serial number is returned as a property of the inventory device. If serial numbers of new inventory devices match the serial numbers of asset records not yet linked to any device, FlexNet Manager Suite automatically links the asset record to its inventory device.
