InstallShield 2008
Project
This information applies to the following project types:
The DirectX 8.0a object contains a merge module that has the logic required to install DirectX 8.0a. It does so by launching a redistributable .exe file.
The object performs a configuration step that does not require user intervention. When the object performs the configuration step, it adds the required redistributable .exe files to the to the Disk1 in the Support Files view. As a result, the build engine copies these files to your disk image at build time. From this location on the disk image, the merge module attempts to run the DirectX 8.0a installation.
The object installs DirectX 8.0a to all Windows 9x machines and to Windows 2000 or later. However, it does not install DirectX 8.0a on a Windows NT 4 machine. To install DirectX 8.0a on Windows NT 4, you must install the NT 4 Service Pack 6 manually.
When an installation containing the DirectX 8.0a object is run on an Windows NT 4 machine that does not have at least SP6, a warning is displayed. When the end user clicks OK at the message prompt, the installation completes normally.
Tip
To change the text of the warning message, you can set a Windows Installer property called DIRECTX8_NT4_MESSAGE to the text you want to display. If you want the installation to exit instead of continuing normally, you can set the DIRECTX8_NT4_ISERROR property to any value such as Yes.
