Project-Specific

PROJECT

This panel is not available for InstallScript projects.

Panel Options

Create SETUP.EXE

Use this option to specify whether to create a Setup.exe installation launcher for the current release.

The Setup.exe installation launcher is required in the following cases:

The entire setup package and all of your application's files will be compressed into Setup.exe if you selected the Compressed and included within the installation package option on the Release Configuration panel for a Network Image or Web—One Executable media type.

Setup.exe displays the Language dialog if you selected that option in the Setup Languages panel.

Support these operating systems

In the list, select the operating systems that your installation project should support.

Note

NOTE

There is no option to install the Windows Installer engine on Windows XP or 2003 because these operating systems already have it.

Suppress warning if the Windows Installer service cannot be upgraded

Select this option to suppress the warning dialog that is displayed if the Windows Installer service cannot be installed or upgraded on the target system.

For example, Windows 2000 ships with version 1.1 of the Windows Installer service. Because the Windows Installer service files fall under System File Protection, version 1.2 of the Windows Installer service cannot be installed on Windows 2000. Selecting this option suppresses the warning message box that would be displayed under these circumstances.

MSI Engine Version

Select the Windows Installer service version to be installed.

Windows Installer Service Version Descriptions

Version

Description

Version 1.1

Allows you to target systems that have Windows Installer version 1.1 installed. This overrides the Schema property setting (in the Summary Information Stream view) and sets the property to 110. It also includes the 1.2 engine for cases where the target system does not have version 1.1 installed.

Note

InstallShield does not install or distribute the 1.1 engine. If Windows Installer version 1.1 is not present on the target system, InstallShield installs Windows Installer version 1.2.

Version 1.2

Installs Windows Installer 1.2 to the target system.

Version 2.0 (under NT 4, requires Service Pack 6)

Installs Windows Installer 2.0 to the target system.

Version 3.0 (requires Windows 2003 SP3 or greater)

Installs Windows Installer 3.0 to the target system.

Version 3.1 (requires Windows 2003 SP3 or greater)

Installs Windows Installer 3.1 to the target system.

Version 3.1 or 2.0 (best fit for system)

Installs Windows Installer 3.1 to a target system that is running Windows 2003 SP3 or later, and installs Windows Installer 2.0 to other target systems.

Delay engine reboot until after your setup installation completes

Select the Delay engine reboot until after your setup installation completes option to delay any reboot that may be required by the Windows Installer engine installation until your setup program has completed. Clear this option to allow the system to reboot immediately after installing or updating the Windows Installer engine, if necessary.
